DC Comics has hired Orson Scott Card to Write Superman

Okay, I'm a little slow at reading the news sometimes, so when I read this today, I was, quite frankly, horrified.

I'm really disappointed at DC Comics for hiring such a homophobic arse as Orson Scott Card to write Superman.  Usually I feel that an author's views on life shouldn't hold a person back from reading their works – it’s generally a good idea to see how others view things, even if I disagree with them. However, in this case, Orson Scott Card is actively campaigning for a hate-mongering society. I despise people like him, and I am really disturbed at DC Comics for this as well. Is anybody else bothered by this?

I cannot tell you how much this bothers me. Card actually demanded anarchy if gay marriage ever was passed. DC Comics seems to have always sided with tolerance. They're written Alan Scott gay (though I loved his son Todd and his domestic partner. They even had a great issue of JSA about the two of them wanting to adopt). Birds of Prey had to two gay men and a lesbian in it prior to the New 52. Batwoman got her own book. Renee from Gotham PD...I can go on and on about how they have made strives to incorporate gay characters into their comics.

But this disgusts me. I understand that Card is a big name in books. Who hasn't heard of Ender's Game? Still, this man is a bigot, and though it's my life's dream to work at DC Comics again in some capacity, this is truly disheartening. Not to mention, Gail Simone was originally pulled off of Batgirl (rumor has it) for wanting to write a transgender character. She has been placed back on the book, but why the sudden change from a company that celebrates all lifestyles to one that hires a "gay basher"? Disappointed. Very disappointed.

Yes, it does seem very strange that DC is doing this now, because like you said, they've always seemed to have sided with tolerance. It makes one wonder if they're having a change of heart and now moving in the other direction. I hope they come to their senses and "un-hire" Orsen Scott Card pronto. I can't look at DC Comic stuff at the moment without a bitter taste in my mouth. Shame, 'cuz of all the great stuff they've done.

I've signed a petition to send to DC, and I'll send them an email this afternoon or tomorrow, telling them how I feel about their about-face in regards to tolerance.
